Karen Oberdorfer, LMFT

Hi, I’m Karen (she/her) – a California licensed MFT (#91302).

I offer walk and talk therapy on Ohlone lands in Oakland in beautiful nature settings. I also offer on-line therapy to clients residing in California.

If you are in a life stage where you need clarity about next steps, are wanting to create a better relationship with yourself or others, or you just need a place to feel supported as you work through pain points, therapy with me can be helpful. Through our work together the aim is for you to gain perspective, self-compassion, and self-confidence.

I am a supportive, unflappable, trauma-informed therapist who utilizes EMDR, Motivational Interviewing and Internal Family Systems and I’m also influenced and inspired by somatic and eco-therapeutic approaches. Not just limited to the above, I incorporate what is the best fit at any one time for the client, bringing tools from a variety of modalities and orientations, such as mindfulness based approaches.

If the above terms sound like a bunch of jargon the overarching principle is a dedication to the understanding that the client – once able to touch in to their true selves – knows best what is needed for their innate healing ability to come forward, and for next steps to be revealed. While there might be times when therapy brings up grief and painful past memories, we will also cultivate together an ability to return back to center, experience moments of lightness, fun, and grounding, while all parts of you are being deeply heard.

We will honor who you’ve been and believe in who you are growing to be.
