Coffee with Shrinks

Mindfulness is often introduced as a way to relax or "pay attention," yet its deeper promise is transformation—of how we know our experience, how we relate to it, and how freely we live within it. This one-hour presentation offers an accessible framework built on three simple instructions: Remember, Return, Rest. Each answers a dialectic at the heart of practice—forgetting and remembering, departing and returning, striving and resting. Simple as they are, these gentle movements of mind give rise to three deeper processes: knowing, influencing, and ultimately liberating. We'll consider a continuum of intentions that practitioners and clients bring to practice, from easing symptoms to cultivating insight and compassionate service, and reflect on what it means to move from symptom relief toward genuine freedom. The hour includes a guided meditation engaging body, mind, and heart, with time for reflection and discussion.

Dr. Cammarata is the Director of Training for East Bay Mindfulness Center. A clinical psychologist with over 40 years of experience, he draws on formal Buddhist studies, the practice of the Chinese martial art of Taijiquan, and involvement in the performing arts of improvisation, dance, music, and storytelling.
